The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is disconnected from the power grid again

Local Ukrainian officials backed by Moscow said Europe's largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhia, went offline in the early hours of Saturday morning amid continued shelling that knocked out a main power line.

The comments come as a team from the UN nuclear energy agency is inspecting the plant, which has recently been embroiled in heavy fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces. The UN mission aims to help ensure the safety of the plant.

Since last week, the plant has been continuously disconnected from the Ukrainian electricity grid. The Ukrainian Agency for Nuclear Energy "Energatom" announced that the cause was the mortar and artillery bombardment near the area.

Moscow and Kiev have continuously exchanged accusations, blaming each other for endangering the nuclear plant./voa
