A wildfire in a rural area of ??northern California destroyed about 100 homes and other buildings, fire department officials said Saturday. At least two people were injured and thousands of people were forced to leave their homes as the flames quickly spread.

The fire broke out Friday afternoon north of the town of Weed, which has about 2,600 residents and is located 402 kilometers north of San Francisco. The flames spread to the Lincoln Heights neighborhood, where a significant number of homes were burned and residents were forced to evacuate.
