This is the first major eruption since December 13. The eruption has caused disruptions in Kagoshima, including: flight delays and cancellations, disruptions to local transport and reduced visibility due to ash clouds.

Ash and debris have also covered roads, creating hazardous driving conditions and possible delays over the next few days, and authorities are urging visitors and residents to avoid restricted areas near the volcano, follow official safety guidelines and monitor updates from local authorities.

Travelers to the region should be prepared for continued delays or unexpected cancellations, especially for flights and road transport. Sakurajima volcano is known for frequent eruptions and conditions can change rapidly. Officials warn that another eruption could occur, making the situation unpredictable. /CNA
