Russia, massive attack on Ukraine/ Zelensky: Over 1,500 drones launched, allies

Ukraine has been hit by a massive Russian airstrike overnight, with Kiev among the main targets. Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the capital's military administration, said one person was killed and 36 others were wounded in the overnight attacks.

Ukraine's air force issued a national air alert shortly before 1 a.m. local time, warning that Russia had launched bombers and that every region in the country was at risk of ballistic missile attacks.

Foreign media reports that 675 drones and 56 missiles were launched towards the country during the attack, with 652 drones and 41 missiles shot down. Ukraine's deputy prime minister said the attacks had also hit ports in the southern Odessa region and railway infrastructure there.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia's air strikes over the past 24 hours are not the actions of those who believe the war is ending.

"In general, since the beginning of yesterday, the Russians have used more than 1,560 drones against our cities and communities. These are definitely not the actions of those who believe that the war is ending. It is important that our partners do not remain silent about this attack ," Zelensky said on Telegram.

Moscow launched a massive daytime drone attack on Ukraine yesterday, targeting critical infrastructure, killing at least six people and prompting Poland to scramble its fighter jets. Another heavy drone and missile attack followed last night, killing one person in Kiev. /CNA
