Russian President Vladimir Putin has had a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Kremlin said on March 25.
Erdogan thanked Putin "for the positive approach" regarding the extension of the agreement on grain exports from the Black Sea ports. According to the Kremlin, the Turkish leader said that he "understands the principled position of the Russian side to achieve the full implementation of the second part of the agreement, the removal of barriers for Russia's agricultural products."
Russia earlier in the week set some conditions for agreeing to a further extension of the grain export deal, and Putin said he will send free grain to African states if those conditions are not met.
This is the second time that the agreement, which Ukraine and Russia signed in July last year, has been extended. The agreement was initially reached with the mediation of the United Nations and Turkey.
Russia and Ukraine, which are involved in the war, are global exporters of wheat and its by-products, and many countries of the world depend on them./ REL
