President Trump increases tariffs on imported products to 15%

The President of the United States announced on Saturday, through a post on the 'Truth Social' platform, that he would increase the global customs tariff that he would apply to all products imported into the US to 15%.

This tariff is being reviewed just days before it was set to take effect on February 24. The news comes after the US Supreme Court ruled that a large portion of the tariffs that Trump had previously imposed were illegal, limiting his powers.

In response, Trump decided to use another legal mechanism that allows tariffs up to a maximum level of 15%.

According to the court's ruling, Trump had exceeded his authority when he imposed tariffs on most imported products without Congressional approval, leading him to invoke an old legal provision.

However, using this tool, the new tariffs will take effect immediately, raising it from 10% to 15%, the highest level allowed./CNA
