U.S. forces conducted an airstrike on a speedboat in the eastern Pacific on Friday that was suspected of being involved in drug trafficking. The strike killed three people on board, the U.S. Latin American and Caribbean Command said in a statement.
According to data from SOUTHCOM, since last September the US has carried out more than 40 attacks on ships suspected of trafficking drugs in the Caribbean and Pacific. The death toll in these operations has reached at least 147.
However, Washington has yet to present evidence to prove that all the ships hit were actually involved in illegal activities, which has raised questions about the scope and legal framework of these military operations. /CNA
