Pakistan: Progress has been made in negotiations between the US and Iran

Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar has said progress is being made in negotiations between Iran and the US for a ceasefire, Iran's semi-official Tasmin news agency reported, without giving details on how the talks were progressing.

The US and Iran have held only one round of direct negotiations, with US Vice President JD Vance traveling to Islamabad for talks in April, which failed to yield any progress. Since then, the US and Iran have indirectly expressed their competing interests and proposals, with Islamabad acting as a mediator.

"Our goal as a mediator is to bring the parties to a peace agreement; something that the region and the world need. Our goal is to end the crisis with a mutually beneficial agreement," Dar declared.

The statement comes as US officials indicated that a ceasefire was still in place, despite the United Arab Emirates saying it was targeted by Iranian missiles and drones on Monday and Tuesday.

The US also reportedly destroyed several small Iranian boats. Regarding the attacks, US President Donald Trump said that Iran "plays games... but they want to make a deal." /CNA
