Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani dies

Giorgio Armani, one of the most influential and globally recognized figures of late 20th-century Italian fashion and a pioneer of high-profile celebrity fashion, has died in Milan.

"In this company, we have always felt like part of a family. Today, with deep emotions, we feel the void left by the one who founded and nurtured this family with vision, passion and dedication. But it is precisely in his spirit that we, the employees and family members who have always worked alongside Mr. Armani, commit ourselves to protecting what he built and to moving his company forward in his memory, with respect, responsibility and love," the fashion company said in a statement.

The funeral home will be open from Saturday to Sunday, September 7, and will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., in Milan, at Via Bergognone 59, inside the 'Armani Teatro.' In accordance with Armani's clearly expressed wishes, the funeral will be held privately.

Giorgio Armani was born on July 11, 1934. He first rose to fame working for the fashion house Cerruti in 1881. He formed his own company, Armani, in 1975, which eventually expanded into music, sports and luxury hotels. By 2001, Armani was considered the most successful Italian-born designer and is credited with pioneering red carpet fashion. /CNA
