This Monday, one US dollar is bought for 81.8 lek and sold...
US President Donald Trump will have his signature on US paper currency, starting in the summer of 2026, for the first time in history for a sitting president.
This change will mark the end of a 165-year tradition, where until now only the Treasury Secretary and the US Treasury signed banknotes.
Initially, new $100 bills with the signatures of Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will be printed as early as June 2026. Then, other dollar denominations will follow this pattern throughout the year.
The transition is part of the initiative to celebrate the 250th anniversary of US independence.
Traditionally, a president's signature on money is something that hasn't been done since 1861, and removing the Treasury Secretary's signature marks a break from long-standing historical practice./CNA
