US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has joined his G7 counterparts in France, where the US-Israeli war with Iran has become the main focus of the meeting.
Rubio is expected to face pressure to reduce tensions in the region, as concerns about the conflict's impact on the global economy grow.
The G7 countries – the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan – are wary of military involvement and have underlined the importance of maintaining stability in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for global oil and natural gas transport.
Rubio said it was in the "interest" of the G7 countries to "move forward" and help unblock the strait, adding that he is not there "to make them happy" but to uphold international law.
The discussions will also cover the war in Ukraine, reflecting concerns about ties between Russia and Iran, which experts say are using similar tactics in both conflicts.
