Over 20 Ukrainian prisoners are released by Russia

The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, announced via Telegram that 22 prisoners of war have returned to Ukraine from Russian prisons on August 7.

Among those released are two officers, ordinary soldiers and non-commissioned officers.

They had participated in battles on different fronts and some of them had been wounded, Yermak said.

He did not provide further details.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the exchange of prisoners.

The last exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine took place in July of this year.

Russia launched the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The war has left thousands of people dead, forced millions more to relocate and caused great material damage./ REL
