Former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested by British police on suspicion of misconduct in the exercise of public office.

Police have said that King Charles' brother has been taken into custody, while officers are carrying out searches at his properties in Berkshire and Norfolk.

For several years, the second son of the late Queen Elizabeth II has faced various accusations over his links to the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Police said earlier this week they were investigating allegations that a woman was trafficked to the UK by Jeffrey Epstein to have a sexual encounter with Mountbatten-Windsor. He is also alleged to have shared sensitive state information with Epstein while serving as the UK's trade envoy.

Andrew himself has denied all allegations against him and insisted he was never a witness or suspect in any of the conduct Epstein is accused of. He has not commented on the latest allegations of misconduct in public office.

Recall that a few weeks ago, Buckingham Palace said it would be willing to support the police if contacted regarding the allegations made against the former prince. /CNA
