Twelve miners of the Trepça metallurgical plant were injured on Wednesday while transporting sulfuric acid to the workplace.
They are out of danger for life.
Bujar Jashari, technical director of this combine, confirmed the news for Radio Free Europe.
The incident happened in the eleventh horizon of the Stantërg mine in South Mitrovica.
Health officials at the General Hospital of Mitrovica have said that 12 miners have sought medical help and that two of the workers have suffered more serious injuries to their eyes, while the others to their limbs.
Some are being treated in hospital, and some have been released for home treatment.
Jashari told Radio Free Europe that the miners use sulfuric acid to clean the pipes of the pumps and that during the transportation of the material there was a leak from the cylinder.
The Trepça metallurgical complex is a joint-stock company: 80 percent of the shares belong to the Government of Kosovo, 20 percent belong to the employees of this company./ REL
