Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán concedes election defeat after 16

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has congratulated his center-right challenger, Peter Magyar, on his victory in Sunday's parliamentary elections.

"I congratulated the victorious party. We will serve the Hungarian nation and our homeland even from the opposition," Orban told supporters in Budapest.

"Prime Minister Viktor Orbán just called us to congratulate us on our victory," Magyar wrote on social media.

The partial results put his Tisza party on track for a parliamentary majority.

The elections had a record turnout of 77.80%, half an hour before closing, far surpassing the previous record of 70.5% set in the 2002 parliamentary elections. /CNA
