Kim Jong Un: South Korea, the country most hostile to my country

North Korea's communist leader Kim Jong Un says the time has come to designate South Korea as the country "most hostile" to his country, KCNA, Pyongyang's state news agency, reported on Wednesday.

Leader Kim also accused Seoul of fomenting confrontation and an arms race, while calling for his country's military capabilities to be boosted for self-defense and the prevention of nuclear war, North Korean state media said.

He made the comments during a visit to weapons factories earlier this week, state news agency KCNA reported.

The communist leader described the deterioration of relations between the two Koreas as a "new stage of change" and "inevitable reality".

"In no way will we act unilaterally to bring a major event of overwhelming power to the Korean Peninsula, but we have no intention of avoiding a war," the North Korean leader was quoted as saying.

In a speech to the party during its year-end meeting last month, leader Kim said peaceful reunification was impossible, adding that the government would make decisive policy changes regarding South Korea./ VOA
