Iran: The US is "dragging" the decision on the nuclear deal

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has accused the United States of "dragging" the decision to revive the nuclear agreement, which Tehran signed with world powers in 2015.

The 2015 deal provided for the lifting of sanctions on Iran in exchange for curbs on its nuclear activities.

After the decision of the former US president, Donald Trump, to withdraw the US from this agreement in 2018, Tehran has also started to avoid some points of the agreement.

But, since the beginning of this year, the member countries of the agreement have increased efforts to revive the pact.

“Sot, janë amerikanët ata që duhet të marrin vendim, mirëpo ata janë duke e zvarritur procesin me këmbët e veta”, u ka thënë Raisi gazetarëve në Teheran.

“Republika Islamike dëshiron heqjen e sanksioneve, mirëpo në të njëjtën kohë e ka në agjendë edhe neutralizimin e sanksioneve”, ka thënë Raisi, pa ofruar më shumë hollësi.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has accused the United States of "trying to exert political and psychological pressure to secure concessions in negotiations."

Washington said earlier this month that a return to the agreement is not expected to happen in the near future.

"It is not that we do not want the re-implementation of the nuclear agreement. But we are not in a position where something like this could happen in the near future," said White House spokesman John Kirby.

Washington is "focused" that the authorities in Iran "give responsibility for what they do" in the protests, Kirby said, among other things./REL
