Rishi Sunak has been elected the new chairman of the Conservative Party and prime minister of Great Britain.

His election came after former Trade Secretary Penny Mordaunt failed to secure the necessary support.

Sunak will be Britain's first black leader and now faces the huge task of stabilizing the party and the country at a time of economic and political hardship.

He will succeed Liz Truss, who resigned after just 44 days in office, becoming the shortest-serving prime minister.

The latter was captured today by the cameras finally leaving the Prime Minister's office in Downing Street. The photo was taken a few minutes after Rishi Sunak was confirmed as the new prime minister.
