For the assailant with a firearm against former US President Donald Trump, the authorities have identified the gunman and provided details about the victim and the injured. 

The serious incident occurred on Saturday during a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. 

The gunman : The FBI identified him as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who lived in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, about 35 miles south of the rally's location. He was killed at the scene by Secret Service agents. Public records show he was registered to vote as a Republican, but also made a small donation to a Democratic-affiliated group in 2021. The 20-year-old was on top of an apartment building when he opened fire.

Further threats:  Authorities said at a press conference that they do not currently believe there are any additional existing threats, but that it is still an active investigation and it is too early to say definitively how the entire assassination took place.

Casualty:  The shooting left one participant dead and two others seriously injured, authorities say. Although they have been identified by the authorities, these details have not yet been made public.

Trump's status:  A spokesman said that Trump is "fine" and the Secret Service announced that he was safe. The former president said on social networks that he was hit by a bullet in "the upper part of my right ear". In the hours of before Sunday morning, Trump returned to Newark, New Jersey.

Investigation:  Multiple federal and state agencies are now investigating what happened, how the shooter got into his location, what weapon was used and other questions that have yet to be publicly answered. The FBI has asked the public to come forward with any information, photos or video related to the shooting.

Biden rushes back:  President Joe Biden was in Delaware at the time of the fatal incident. Biden returned to the White House early Sunday morning so he could continue to be briefed by law enforcement. Earlier, he said he had spoken with Trump and publicly condemned the attack.

Former president's security: There were no additional security requests for former President Donald Trump for his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, said Kevin Rojek, the FBI's special agent in charge of the Pittsburgh office. additional security request that was ever denied by the FBI," he said at a news conference in Butler earlier tonight.
