Europol reports that 23 people have been arrested by the police after being accused of corrupting football and table tennis tournaments.
The investigation involved the Spanish Police (Policía National), the Spanish Tax Agency (Agencia Tributaria) and the Romanian Police (Poli?ia Român?), with additional support from INTERPOL.
In 2020, law enforcement officers discovered a number of suspicious online bets on international table tennis tournaments.
The subsequent analysis led to the identification of a criminal network composed of Bulgarian and Romanian nationals, established in Spain, who bribed athletes mainly of these two nationalities. The suspects targeted competitions mainly outside Spain, while the head of the organization bribed athletes playing for several football teams in Romania.
They passed this information on to other fixers, and at the same time they managed to gather knowledge about frauds carried out by criminal organizations operating in the same area.

1. 23 suspects are arrested, among them the head of the organization
2. Four house checks
3. The confiscations include 2 real estates, 3 luxury vehicles, 2 large satellite dishes and signal receivers, 47 bank accounts, 80 telephones, cash and 13,000 euros in counterfeit banknotes./ CNA
