Estonia plans to ban entry of Russians with tourist visas

Estonia plans to ban Russians with Schengen visas from entering the country because of Russia's unprovoked war in Ukraine.

Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu said on August 11 that although Schengen visas issued by his country will be valid, they will not be accepted for entry into Estonia.

Estonia has not issued tourist visas to Russians since the start of Russia's war in Ukraine, with the exception of family members of Estonian citizens.

Reinsalu has said that the new decision affects about 50,000 people who have visas issued by Estonia.

Zëdhënësi i Ministrisë së Jashtme ruse, Ivan Nechayev, i ka quajtur nismat për ndalesa ndaj rusëve si “manifestime të hapura të shovinizmit dhe përpjekje të pamatura për të anuluar gjithçka ruse, gjë që është e pamundur”.

Ndërkohë, kancelari gjerman, Olaf Scholz ka thënë më 11 gusht se ai është kundër ndalesës ndaj shtetasve rusë.

"This is the war of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, so this idea is difficult for me," he told reporters in Berlin.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

He calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.
