Five tons of drugs have been seized by the Ecuadorian authorities in the narco-submarine captured in the Galapagos Islands and three people have been arrested. The operation to capture this submarine took place in a protected area in the Galapagos Islands, famous for their unique biodiversity and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This location is considered a strategic drug transit point.
