Several injured in Stuttgart/ Car hits pedestrians

Several people were injured in the southwestern German city of Stuttgart after a car crashed into a group of pedestrians, authorities said on Friday.

The driver of the car was arrested at the scene, according to authorities.

Police said in X that "at this time there is no evidence that this was an attack, or a deliberate act" and that all evidence so far indicates that it was a "tragic road accident."

Police said the incident took place at an above-ground subway station in central Stuttgart.

The driver of the black Mercedes car involved in the accident was arrested, a police spokesman said, according to the DPA news agency.

German authorities have launched an investigation into the case and have cordoned off the area.

Police are questioning witnesses to the incident, while metro services in that part of the city have been suspended.
