Debates in the Greek Parliament/ New draft law on asylum and migration proposed

The Greek government is proposing the new European framework for asylum and migration.

The pact provides for common procedures for examining asylum applications, managing the EU's external borders and returning those who are not entitled to international protection.

The draft law was approved in principle by the New Democracy party in the relevant parliamentary committee. SYRIZA, KKE, Hellenic Solution and Pleusi Eleftherias voted against it, while PASOK and Niki reserved their position during the debate in the plenary session.

The developments coincide with two new rescue operations south of Crete, where at least 132 migrants and refugees were picked up by Coast Guard vessels, on one of the main migration routes from Libya to Europe. /CNA
