Borrell: I expect a high-level Kosovo-Serbia political meeting in a few weeks

The head of the European Union's foreign policy, Josep Borrell, said on Thursday that he expects to soon organize a high-level political meeting between Kosovo and Serbia, to discuss the process of normalizing relations between them according to the European proposal, which is supported by the States United.

He made these comments before the start of the meeting of the leaders of the European Union countries to whom he said he will report on the process.

“Propozimi është në tryezë. I thërras të dy udhëheqësit (të Kosovës dhe Serbisë) të vijnë në Bruksel, së shpejti, për disa javë, që përfundimisht ta çojmë përpara këtë propozim”, tha zoti Borrell.

Në fund të takimit dy ditësh, udhëheqësit e vendeve të BE-së pritet të miratojnë përfundime rreth procesit të bisedimeve Kosovë – Serbi dhe propozimit evropian për normalizimin e marrëdhënieve ndërmjet tyre.

Muajin e kaluar, të dërguarit e Shteteve të Bashkuara, Bashkimit Evropian, Gjermanisë, Francës dhe Italisë u takuan me udhëheqësit e Kosovës dhe Serbisë për t'i bindur që të nënshkruajnë një marrëveshje mbi atë propozim, që nuk përfshin njohjen e ndërsjellë, por përkushtimin e palëve për të mos penguar njëra tjetrën në proceset integruese.

Diplomats said the parties must declare by March whether they accept their proposal to normalize relations or face consequences.

Kosovo and Serbia said they accept the European proposal.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic a week ago reported to the Serbian Parliament about the talks with Kosovo, emphasizing the consequences his country will face if it rejects the European proposal.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said on Monday that he accepts the European proposal for the normalization of relations with Serbia, despite all the concerns about the Western pressure to establish the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority.

His statements became the subject of debates in the Parliament of Kosovo on Thursday.../VOA
