Political accusations against the institution/Court of Justice in Kosovo:

The Constitutional Court of Kosovo has reacted to the statements of political parties and accusations against this institution. The Constitutional Court has considered the statements as reckless and as pressure on the institutions of justice.

The CC in its statement states that the decisions are based on the Constitution and on judicial practice and international practices.

The Constitutional Court has appealed to political parties to respect the independence of the institution and not to violate the integrity of judges.

"The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo expresses its concern regarding the reckless statements of senior state officials and elected politicians.

The independence of the Constitutional Court is not a privilege of its judges, but is the foundation of the rule of law.

The independence and impartiality of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo are protected by the Constitution, and no institution, political party or individual may interfere with its work. Any attempt to exert pressure on constitutional judges constitutes a violation of the fundamental principle of the separation of powers and undermines citizens' trust in the rule of law and in democracy itself.

The decisions of the Constitutional Court are based exclusively on the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, its judicial practice, as well as international standards for the protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms. Consequently, any statement that attempts to relativize or prejudice the decisions of the Constitutional Court is not only irresponsible, but also harmful to the democratic development of the country.

The Court appeals to all parties to respect its independence, to refrain from statements that undermine the integrity of judges and their independent decision-making, and to contribute to the strengthening of the constitutional order.

"Only through respecting this fundamental principle can a just, democratic and functional society be guaranteed for all citizens of Kosovo," the statement said.  / CNA
