Tragic accident in Germany / Two sisters from Kosovo lose their lives

Two sisters originally from the village of Topanicë in Kamenica in Kosovo have lost their lives in a serious road accident that occurred on Saturday on the A5 highway, near Appenweier in Germany.

The Swiss newspaper "Blick", referring to German authorities, reported that the tragic accident occurred after an initial collision between two vehicles in the northbound lane of the A5 motorway.

As a result, vehicles following behind were forced to brake, which led to a chain accident near the Appenweier motorway junction. Five vehicles were involved in the accident.

In one of them, a Smart vehicle registered in Switzerland, were two girls who could not survive despite medical assistance. They died at the scene as a result of their serious injuries.

Police in Offenburg confirmed to Blick that the victims were two Swiss nationals. Meanwhile, the passengers of the other vehicles involved in the accident did not suffer serious injuries.

Following the incident, the northbound lane of the A5 motorway was completely closed for several hours, while emergency teams, accident experts and police authorities documented the scene and removed the damaged vehicles.

The Baden-Baden Traffic Police have launched investigations to clarify the full circumstances of the tragic accident. /CNA
