Trump: Strait of Hormuz tariff-free for 60 days, only if imposed by the US

US President Donald Trump announced in a post on the Truth Social platform that no tariffs will be imposed on passage through the Strait of Hormuz for a 60-day period during the ceasefire.

According to his statement, during this period ships will be able to pass without additional fees on one of the world's most important sea routes for the transport of oil and goods.

Trump stressed that even after the end of the 60 days, there will be no tariffs, unless they are imposed by the United States if a full agreement is not reached.

He added that any potential future tariffs would be related to offsetting costs for security services that, according to him, the US provides to Middle Eastern countries.

In his post, the US president described the United States as a "Guardian Angel" for the countries of the region, arguing that Washington has borne and continues to bear significant costs for guaranteeing security in the area.

The statement comes at a time of high geopolitical tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a key point for global energy trade.

Any change in the transit regime in this sea route could directly impact international oil markets and global supply chains. /CNA
