13 earthquakes in Evia, Greece / Schools closed tomorrow for security reasons

A total of 13 earthquakes have been recorded in Evia, Greece, since Sunday morning, some of which were also felt in the Attica region. The two largest tremors, which had a shallow focal depth, were 4.1 and 4.4 on the Richter scale, respectively. According to reports from Greek state media ERT, cracks were caused in 20 houses, shops and the museum of Saint John.

The earthquakes in question occurred in the same area where a 5.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded in November 2023. The new tremors occurred in a part of this area, which was still "untouched".

Seismologists from the Geodynamic Institute are monitoring the evolution of the phenomenon.

Meanwhile, by decision of the mayor of Mantoudio-Limni-AgiaAnna, schools of all levels will remain closed on Monday for inspection by a team from the Department of Education, Culture and Sports.

"The earthquake that occurred with the epicenter between Prokopios and Pelion and the second one that followed a short time ago in the same place caused damage to buildings. The residents of Prokopios, as well as the surrounding villages, should remain calm. I have already contacted the responsible minister, so that a team from DAEFK can be sent tomorrow and the buildings can be inspected. The schools in Prokopios and Pili, until the inspection is completed, will remain closed," the mayor said./CNA
