The former prime minister, Sali Berisha, says that farmers in Albania have only one way: bankruptcy and leaving.
During the meeting with economic experts and DP departments, at a round table discussion on the 2024 budget, with the slogan "Budget of Albanians, the pot of power", Berisha said that with the budget set for farmers today, he is told to leave.
"Farmers have only one way, bankruptcy and departure. And they are the ones who leave Albania the most. Never has there been such an abandonment. Even socialism was stupidity, a madness, but still, channels and things, money was spent on that Orwellian stupidity. And today, he assigns in the most cynical way, 30 million euros for the Albanian farmer. Run away, he is told, run away as soon as possible because you don't have to stay here. He is a man of the land, for a man of the land, he earns as a man of the land more in Greece, Italy, Montenegro, Croatia, wherever he goes." , said Berisha.
According to Berisha, this sector is a real source of well-being for those who are, and a real source of export for the country.
"The budget we discussed leaves health worse, education even worse. Farmers, you discussed, I don't believe there is a place in the plan, I don't believe there is, to give a total of 31 million euros from the budget to a sector where 40 percent of Albanians live. A sector that has a contribution to domestic production, 17 to 20 percent. A sector, which for the conditions and circumstances of Albania, a country full of water with a land of the highest quality, can always be a real source of well-being for those who are, and a real source of export for the country. So, a powerful lever for the country's economy," he said.
There is no sector that has been destroyed more than the agricultural sector, says Berisha.
"You said it and I follow it, there is no sector that has been destroyed more than the agricultural sector. Hundreds and hundreds of millions of euros invested by farmers, received loans, sweat jobs in emigration, and in any form, have been disintegrated and disappeared with unimaginable speed. In 2013, even in 2013, we managed to become a milk exporter. And that was a huge achievement in my estimation. Today, it's not that we don't export, but on the contrary, we are drowned by the Serbian market, by powdered milk, and all kinds of support and help have disappeared," he said./ CNA
