Meeting on the Sovereign Guarantee Scheme in Agriculture/ Sejko: Instrument that strengthens lending to the real economy

The Bank of Albania, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a meeting with commercial banks to discuss the progress and prospects of the Sovereign Guarantee Scheme for the agricultural sector.

The high-level meeting focused on the Sovereign Guarantee Scheme in Agriculture and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Financing Program from the banking sector.

The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, emphasized that this scheme is a complementary instrument that strengthens the transmission of credit to the real economy, while simultaneously maintaining the principles of prudent risk management and financial stability.

Sejko underlined the importance of continuous coordination between authorities and the banking sector to increase its effectiveness.

The meeting appreciated the increased interest and applications from farmers and agro-processing businesses, as well as the need to further improve access to financing for agriculture. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to close cooperation, with the aim of increasing lending, promoting investment and sustainable economic development. /CNA
