The Bank of Albania will not intervene in the exchange rate, regardless of the current currency fluctuations.

This was confirmed by the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, during the press conference.

Sejko said that there is no reason to intervene, as he emphasized that the exchange rate has a normal behavior that is defined in the market criteria.

"The calendar of interventions was changed during the month of August, we do not plan to make other interventions beyond the calendar, in case the criteria established by the law to maintain a stabilized exchange rate are not met. Normally the registration of the exchange rate is free as long as the exchange rate has a normal behavior, there is a behavior that is determined in market criteria and not in speculative conditions, we do not have to intervene and we do not plan to intervene.

Once again, we emphasize that a not only stabilized exchange rate, but a strong exchange rate of the lek against foreign currencies, helps keep prices under control, i.e. increasing the purchasing power of the population and keeping inflationary pressures under control. Our main objective is inflation, but not only. If the exchange rate will help keep prices under control, of course the Central Bank has no reason to intervene in the exchange rate", he underlined./ CNA
