In her speech, Ahmetaj emphasized that macroeconomic and financial stability is a prerequisite for the implementation of major infrastructure projects and for maximum benefit from their development potential.

“Corridor VIII is not just a transport project. It represents an instrument of economic and institutional integration, in line with the four fundamental freedoms of the European Union: the free movement of capital, goods, services and people. For Albania, this corridor translates into reduced trade costs, increased competitiveness and strengthening the role of the Port of Durres as a regional logistics hub. In this context, the Bank of Albania plays a key role in the European integration process through the approximation of the regulatory and supervisory framework with EU standards, the strengthening of micro- and macroprudential mechanisms, as well as the modernization of the payment infrastructure. The harmonization of financial legislation and the preparation of the banking system for deeper integration in the European financial market are part of the institution’s ongoing commitment to guarantee stability and reliability. Inclusion in SEPA is a concrete step in this direction, enabling faster and lower-cost payments with Eurozone countries, and supporting economic development along the Corridor.
