The propaganda of the mayor of Tirana, who is under arrest following the GJKKO decision, is exploiting a Strasbourg court decision given to the former director of RTSH, Thoma Gëllçi, to use it as a battle against the court or prosecutors in the hope that tomorrow he can go to Strasbourg and win because he was arrested unjustly, there is no court decision, and so on.

In fact, Erion Veliaj was not arrested unfairly. There are facts and evidence for Erion Veliaj. Moreover, his associates wanted to destroy the evidence.

Erion Veliaj has two charges of corruption and laundering of the proceeds of crime , and for these two criminal offenses, Erion Veliaj risks up to 15 years in prison and the security measure according to the procedural code is clearly up to 1 year.

How does it differ from the "Gëlçi" case?

Erion Veliaj has two very serious charges and a one-year pre-trial detention, while Thoma Gëllçi has been detained for abuse of office and the court's decision is for a maximum of one or two years of imprisonment. Strasbourg has not found either his detention, his decision and his sentence unjust for Thoma Gëllçi, but it has found the extension of the investigation period unjust.

So if Thoma Gëllçi was arrested for 6 months, the investigation should not have been extended for another three months, as there was enough time for the prosecutor to find and secure evidence and take it to court.

So the violation of the rights that was committed against Thoma Gëllçi is in the extension of the detention period, so from 6 months it became 9 months.

Whereas in the case of Erion Veliaj, the detention is for one year and the sentence is about 15 years and he has two serious criminal offenses, while Thoma Gëllçi only has abuse of office and the Strasbourg court has not given any justification for the sentence given to him.

The Prime Minister used the case of Thoma Gëllçi as an argument, but again, he either doesn't know or they lied to him.

 

Therefore, the propaganda machine and the political part will try to first spread the lie of Thoma Gëllçi's great victory in Strasbourg, which is actually a victory for the three months of detention and not for the sentence and detention, and they will confront this with Erion Veliaj, where there is no comparison between abuse of office and corruption and the cleaning up of evidence of a criminal offense, since the punishment that is foreseen is 5 to 15 times more than Thoma Gëllçi's punishment and the investigation time foreseen for Erion Veliaj, since he is detained on the basis of a criminal offense, goes up to a year.

Therefore, everything the corrupt media machine says, people close to Mr. Gëllçi or Erion Veliaj's public engines are simply lying because the truth is completely different.

Just as they lied about the arrest when they said it was not a court decision and was illegal when there were two court decisions, everything has been proven legal, the facts and evidence are there.

But the government and propaganda do not accept the arrest of its corrupt sons, but remain silent when opposition figures are arrested and punished, and start jumping out of trouble when their corruption is caught./ CNA
