On Monday, February 10th after noon, Mayor Erion Veliaj was arrested by decision of the Criminal Investigation and Prevention Court.

The Special Court has ordered several security measures, including for the wife of Mayor Erion Veliaj.

Based on the investigations that have been conducted, SPAK has filed several charges against Veliaj's wife, who are respectively suspected of committing the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials", committed in collaboration (9 times), "Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity", "Refusal to declare, failure to declare, concealment or false declaration of assets, private interests of elected persons and public servants or of any other person who has a legal obligation to declare", provided for by articles 260 and 25, 287/2 and 257/a/2 of the Criminal Code.

CNA has revealed the decision of the GJKKO, which states that: The Court considers that there are reasonable suspicions based on evidence that the person under investigation Ajola Xoxa has objectively consumed the figure of the criminal offense "Refusal to declare, failure to declare, concealment or false declaration of assets of elected persons and public servants" provided for by Article 257/a/2 of the Criminal Code.

The Court considers the reasoning of the Special Prosecutor's Office to be correct, stating that, in this case, it is established that there are reasonable suspicions based on evidence that she has not declared, by concealing, her engagement in any type of activity that generates income, including any type of income generated by this activity or this engagement, according to the obligations arising from Law No. 9049 dated 10.04.2023, Article 4 letter "g" thereof.

These commitments of this citizen are specifically related to her participation in the board of the "Harabel" Center, a center that is proven to have generated income, as argued above, and at the same time the owner (the "Harabel" Center) of the limited liability company "Nan Gallery" shpk, which is a commercial entity with a profitable nature.

The concealment of these facts by the citizen under investigation has made it impossible for law enforcement agencies to have a complete and clear picture not only of this citizen's participation in the boards of organizations that, in turn, own limited liability companies, but what is more important, has made it impossible to "identify" and "trace" a considerable amount of money that has circulated through these entities actually controlled by the citizen under investigation. Precisely, the complete lack of this transparency has subsequently allowed the functioning of such an organized scheme of money movement from and through these NGOs and limited liability companies.

Also, from other acts it results that the person under investigation Ajola Xoxa, by not declaring the rent of the premises in the amount of 24,000 euros per year as it results from the investigation, has made a false declaration regarding the possibility of saving.

Among other things, the decision states that Ajola Xoxa and her relatives have spent 86,721,175 lek over four years on clothes, cosmetic products, lipstick, earrings, etc.

"Also, if private interests had been declared, the expenses made by citizen Ajola Xoxa and her relatives, who spent the sum of 86,721,175 lek for four years only on clothes, cosmetic products, lipstick, earrings, etc., would have been easily ascertained."

In fact, this shows the unbridled luxury in which Ajola Xoxa and her relatives lived. Always dressed up in her outings with jewelry costing tens of thousands of dollars.
