The Special Prosecution Office, through an authorization submitted to the Director of Prisons, has decided that Erion Veliaj can have visits. Held in the Durres detention center, the mayor, arrested for corruption in at least 9 cases and money laundering, can only be visited by his close family members.
Erion Veliaj was arrested on February 10 by order of SPAK and decision of the GJKKO in the premises of the Municipality of Tirana. On Wednesday, the GJKKO, in a marathon session, confirmed the security measure "Arrest in prison" for the mayor. Veliaj was transferred to the Durrës detention center on Thursday morning.
According to the investigative file, Veliaj is accused of having granted construction permits in exchange for irregular benefits to 5 businessmen, who are under investigation by SPAK and are under the "Obligation to Appear" measure./ CNA
