SPAK unravels Veliaj's fraud

SPAK has denied Erion Veliaj's media reports that EC authorities have requested to meet the mayor.

In fact, SPAK confirms what CNA reported a little while ago that the EC Authorities have not made any request to meet Erion Veliaj, but it is the latter who has requested a meeting with the monitoring mission of the EC Congress of Local Authorities.

"In response to your requests - On 11.11.2025, through a request sent to the Special Prosecution Office, the defendant Erion Veliaj requested permission for an official meeting with representatives of the Monitoring Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe during their visit to Albania, without specifying their names.

The Special Prosecution Office rejected his request on 18.11.2025, basing it on Law No. 81/2020 "On the rights and treatment of prisoners and detainees" (Articles 49 point 1 and 73 points 1 and 2) and Council of Ministers No. 209/2022.

"We would like to bring to your attention, despite media reports, that the Special Prosecution Office has not received any request from representatives of the Monitoring Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe," SPAK said in a statement./ CNA
