The left-wing councilors of the Tirana Municipal Council, led by Halit Valterin, a former member of the Democratic Party, have requested that the arrested mayor Erion Veliaj be present at Friday's meeting, where the 2026 budget is on the agenda.

Unable to be physically present, they requested that Veliaj be present online.

The two prosecutors, Ols Dado and Altin Dumani, after the advisors' request, have refused.

The permit is granted by the prosecutor and approved by the General Directorate of Prisons, i.e. for meetings in the institution.

And secondly, there are special permits. The law specifically stipulates that they include cases of death, birth, serious illnesses determined by a medical report, and cases of exams when someone is pursuing their studies.
