The second round of university applications has ended today. The rector of the University of Shkodra, Tonin Gjuraj, announced that in the second round, the number of students who have applied to this university for the new academic year is almost the same as last year, with a negligible increase of 15 applications.
" Applications for the second round at universities have been completed, which will be followed by registrations. As for applications, in the second round we have 2088 applications from 2073 last year, so a very slight increase, and we will see how many will be translated into registrations since yesterday, when registration began until October 8. We also have a third round that will be between October 13 and 24, but with the condition that applicants are registered on the U-Albania portal. If we take into account applications, students coming from abroad, transfers and second programs, we will make the final balance on October 24. The second cycle of studies has started the application and ends on October 3, and by October 17 we will have the announcement of the winners, and then between October 17 and 27 we will have the real number of students in the second cycle, that is, scientific and professional masters. The dates of October 24 and 27 will give us "The clear picture of the number of students who will be at the University of Shkodra this year. The third cycle programs are another story because the quotas are limited and we have two programs in linguistics and economics and sustainable tourism. On October 6, the university opens its doors and the Minister of Education Mirela Kumbaro will be present in Shkodra, while on October 16 we have the graduation ceremony for the year 2024-2025," said the rector of the University of Shkodra, Gjuraj.
Rector Gjuraj focused on the need for investments in the University of Shkodra, once again appealing to the local government and the Albanian government for the reconstruction of current buildings and the transfer of ownership of two old buildings that have been out of use for years.
"We will continue the dialogue with the local government because it is a legal provision that the local government makes 10% of the university budget available. We have made a request for the local government to contribute to several building reconstructions where we are unable to use our budget. There have also been other requests for expansion of space at the university with two buildings that I am actually initiating and will also inform the minister about for the building near the Faculty of Educational Sciences or the building of the former sanatorium or the former psychiatric hospital. Then, if the government is considering a very large project for Shkodra, this remains to be seen because it is not in our hands," said the rector.
Rector Gjuraj held these positions before the start of the meeting of the academic senate of the "Luigj Gurakuqi" university./ CNA
