Toxic waste/ Executive director of the "Basel" network: The

The executive director of the "Basel Network", Jim Pucket, has spoken to the media about the toxic waste that has arrived at the Port of Durrës.

He requested that the containers be opened to the public and that transparency be made with what they contain.

According to Pucket, it is suspected that the waste originates from the metallurgical plant in Elbasan.

He stated that they are 100% sure that there are toxic residues in the containers.

He further stated that the prosecution must observe and be transparent with the public.

"We think that the cargo is on its way from Singapore and arrived in Durrës today. We expect the Moliva to arrive and anchor in the afternoon.

It was expected to arrive at 08:00 but has been asked to be held a kilometer off the coast. We have information that the authorities have asked the captain to wait. I believe this delay this postponement is because you are all here.

We believe that in the afternoon it will anchor here but we do not know what will happen after that. We are aware that there is a criminal proceeding by the prosecution and we hope that the team will be here when the ship arrives.

We hope that the opening of the containers will be done under strict surveillance and everything will be examined. There has been a lot of controversy about this cargo. There are discussions that there are no toxic residues, but we are 90% sure that these containers contain toxic residues.

We are 100% sure that this waste should not be exported to Thailand. We have gone and seen it. We have done our examinations and found that there are dangerous residues, arsenic and lead.

We believe that this cargo originates from the steel company in Elbasan and therefore all the appropriate observations have been made. Open the containers for public inspection and take samples and reveal the origin of the waste.

It is good news that the prosecution has made this decision. Containers must be stored under strict conditions and must be opened in public. They must be carried out in full transparency," said Pucket./ CNA
