The Co-Chair of the Territorial Reform Commission, Arbjan Mazniku, has made it clear that the commission's work term ends on July 15th and that by then a report with the conclusions and recommendations of the experts will be presented to the Assembly.

In an interview with A2CNN, Mazniku said that the commission does not plan to request an extension of the mandate, as the time available is limited due to the 2027 electoral process.

He added that the goal remains to reach an agreement with the opposition on a common position on reform.

Commenting on the issue of the participation of local representatives in the commission's hearings, Mazniku focused on the case of the Municipality of Tirana. He emphasized that invitations have been sent to all 61 mayors of municipalities and that the commission has requested that the elected leaders of local government themselves participate in the sessions.

According to him, the responsibility for guaranteeing attendance at the hearing lies with the relevant institution.

"On July 15, the deadline that Parliament has given to the commission ends. We must go on July 15, with a product, which could be a report with our findings, the work of the experts. If we have the situation ripe to offer Parliament a solution, we will offer it a solution. We cannot ask the Assembly for time, since in 2027 we will have elections. We have three options: To go with a joint proposal. But most importantly, this is an issue that the Assembly decides. We will show willingness for an agreement with the opposition. We have requested that the mayors of Albania, all 61 mayors of municipalities, be present and come to be heard. We have already submitted the requests to every institution. And it is true, we have maintained a standard for the mayors of municipalities, those who are elected to office, to be heard.
