Election manipulation and vote theft is a problem that has accompanied Albania in these 30 years of transition. The SMI, founded and led by Ilir Meta, is the most talked about party for stealing votes, and this was also confirmed by the Democratic Party in the parliamentary elections of 2001.

At that time, Meta managed through his maneuvers to come to power, which he handed over a year later. For several days, CNA.al is showing with facts all the denunciations of Sali Berisha, then chairman of the Democratic Party, how Meta manipulated the votes and came to power with violence.
Yesterday, we reported on a publication of the ?Democratic Renaissance?, DP?official newspaper, on July 18, 2001, almost a month after the elections, which reported on the arrival of Sali Berisha in Vienna. On page 3 of this article, it is stated that Berisha traveled to Austria to meet with senior OSCE-ODHIR leaders.

With complete and voluminous files, Berisha ?clashed? with international officials to denounce exactly the evidence and facts gathered for the theft of votes by Ilir Meta. On the same day, ?Democratic Renaissance?, which was the voice of the blue headquarters, raported also about the trip of Jozefina Topalli to Italy and Fatmir Mediu to the USA. While today, we are showing other trips and denunciations of the DP of that time to European countries. Thus, after the return of Berisha and Topalli, it was the turn of Besnik Mustafaj and Edi Paloka to denounce Meta?s manipulations with the voluminous files.

They also went to Italy, where they met with the then Deputy Prime Minister Gianfranco Fini. The latter, after being acquainted with all the details, gave his support and that of the Italian government.

DR?s article on June 29, 2001, on page 2, wrote about the facts that the DP handed over to Meta, who was their opponent and the man who stole their power. Iliri Meta, is famous for the robbery of the state treasury and his election scandals according to the denunciations made by the DP in 2001.

We will bring back day by day new facts, to show the real face of Ilir Meta, that of the most corrupt, violent and scandalous man in the history of Albania. This is for all Albanians to understand how endangered is their vote, when Ilir Meta is involved in the electoral process.
