Real Madrid "steal" Bayern's starter

Real Madrid appear to have taken the first concrete step towards strengthening their defence in the summer transfer window. According to reports from Foot Mercato, the Spanish club have reached a preliminary agreement with French defender Dayot Upamecano, who is expected to join the team as a free agent at the end of this season.

For weeks, Spanish media have reported a long list of candidates for the defense department, with names like Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate or Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi.

However, according to reports from France, Real Madrid's management have changed their priorities and are focusing their attention on Upamecano. The Bayern Munich defender is in the final year of his contract and has yet to reach an agreement with the German club for a renewal.

Bayern, for its part, is trying to convince the player to stay in Munich, but talks have not yielded a positive result.
