Paris Saint Germain made history in French football by becoming the first French club to win a global club title. The Parisians triumphed in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup after defeating Flamengo on penalties in the final held in Qatar. The match ended in a 1-1 draw after regular time and extra time, leaving the trophy to be decided on penalties.

PSG started the match with intensity, trying to take advantage of the first moments of the game. After several chances created, the Parisians found the advantage in the 38th minute, when a move built from the left was finalized by Kvaraskelia, who took advantage of a ball sent into the area and scored for 1-0. Flamengo gradually reacted and became more dangerous, creating several chances in front of the goal defended by Matvei Safonov.

In the second half, PSG tried to control the score, but failed to close the game. After about an hour of play, Flamengo won a penalty after a foul by Marquinhos in the area, confirmed by VAR. Jorginho was accurate from the penalty spot, tying the score at 1-1. In the following minutes, the game was characterized by strong duels and high tempo, with limited chances for both teams.

Even extra time did not change the result. Both teams had opportunities to score, but without concretization, leading the final to a penalty shootout. The absolute protagonist there was PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov, who saved four consecutive shots from Flamengo players, giving his team a decisive advantage. For PSG, Nuno Mendes scored the decisive penalty, sealing the 2-1 victory.

This triumph marked PSG's 50th victory in all competitions during 2025 and secured the club's sixth trophy for this calendar year.

For Flamengo, the loss means that the 1981 Intercontinental Cup success remains the only global title in the Brazilian club's history.
