War in the Middle East, Iran's players make the unexpected decision

Seven members of Iran's national women's football team have decided to stay in Australia after the conclusion of their participation in the Asian Cup.

According to CNN reports, this decision comes at a time of high tensions in the Middle East and after the consequences of the war on its 11th day.

A player and a staff member have officially requested asylum, while the rest of the delegation is believed to have headed to Iran.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed today that five players have been granted humanitarian visas due to the threat to their safety in their homeland.

The reason for this fear was their silence during the performance of the national anthem last week, an action that could be followed by punishment from the Iranian authorities upon their return.
