Gattuso starts with problems in Italy, striker leaves the squad

Gianluca Scamacca has been forced to withdraw from the Italian national team due to a knee ligament problem.

The Atalanta striker, called up by coach Gennaro Gattuso for the matches against Estonia and Israel, will not be available for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The medical staff at Coverciano have assessed that the player cannot recover in time and have allowed him to return to Bergamo.

This is another problem for Scamacca, who missed several months of last season due to a long-term injury. Gattuso has not called up a replacement, keeping the squad of 27 players.

Lorenzo Lucca was an option, but the coach decided not to make any changes. For the attacking phase, Kean, Retegui, as well as the alternatives Raspadori and Pio Esposito remain available. Italy will first face Estonia and then Israel.
