Premature final, Real-Bayern guarantees spectacle

Real Madrid hosts Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, in what will be the 29th meeting between them.

The Madrid team comes after a 2-1 defeat to Mallorca in La Liga, leaving them seven points behind first place. This is Real Madrid's 22nd appearance in the quarter-finals, having reached the semi-finals 17 times.

Alvaro Arbeloa's team have won four straight knockout matches this season and are aiming for a fifth consecutive victory. At home, Real Madrid have won five of their six European matches this season.

Bayern Munich have made 24 appearances in the quarter-finals, but have been eliminated 10 times at this stage. The Germans come off the back of a 3-2 win over Freiburg and are unbeaten in 12 matches in all competitions.

In head-to-head matches, Real Madrid has lost only 1 of the last 8 matches in regular time.
