Covid returns to China/ The first victims are reported

China has reported its first coronavirus deaths in six months, as officials warned that the capital, Beijing, was facing its worst situation since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Beijing, a city with more than 21 million inhabitants, has registered 316 cases of infection with the coronavirus on Monday, according to the Reuters news agency.

Three victims have been reported in Beijing since Saturday, bringing the total number of victims in the country to 5,229.

These deaths have been recorded as Chinese citizens have protested against China's state policy of "zero cases of coronavirus".

As a result of this controversial policy, millions of people have been isolated.

In Beijing, officials have already cordoned off the Haidian area, closing shops, schools and restaurants.

Three million residents have been urged to stay at home.

The new coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, was first reported in December 2019 in Wuhan, China.

The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.

More than 6.5 million people have died since the outbreak of the pandemic worldwide.
