150 thousand cases in Albania/ Ages most affected by diabetes

On November 14, World Diabetes Day, all medical communities and diabetes associations unite in a powerful voice to prevent diabetes.

Adela Haxhiraj, endocrinologist, said on the show Goodmorning Albanians in Euronea Albania that in Albania there are about 150 thousand cases diagnosed with diabetes, mainly type 2.

She explained that as is happening in the world, in Albania there is a tendency to increase the number of people with diabetes, while she emphasized that a part of those who are diagnosed do not even know that they are affected.

 "Also in Albania, there is a growing trend and some do not even know that they are affected. 90 percent are adult-onset type 2 diabetes, appearing mostly after the age of 30. In general, the age group of 40-65 years is affected, but with increasing age, we have an increase in incidence", said the doctor.
