Tepelena is one of three municipalities in the Gjirokastra Region where there is a growing interest in mountain tourism. This year alone, accommodation capacity has been increased for visitors who express interest in this rare type of mountain tourism.

Referring to accommodation capacities, today Tepelena offers over 40 service units with a capacity of up to 400 beds. Most of them are located in the Kurvelesh area, on the border with the Ionian coast. Seeing that the Progonat and Nivica canyons have recently aroused the interest of numerous tourist groups, this has encouraged increased investments in accommodation capacities in the villages of Rexhinë, Gusmar, Progonat and Nivicë.

Dozens of guesthouses are being built in these villages, equipped with all the necessary facilities for elite tourism. According to the head of the Tepelena Municipality, Tërmet Peçi, the focus is on increasing the quality of service and the quality of cost. This year alone, according to the Tepelena mayor, there have been almost 20 requests for investments in the mountainous area of ??Kurvelesh, where there is the most interest.

One of the tourism challenges is the revitalization of the Ali Pasha Castle, where there will be several service units converted into guesthouses, while the construction of the Vjosa Park Center is in the initial phase, which will give even more interest to the area in question. For the mayor of Tepelena, the main focus will be sustainable tourism.

According to him, this year a 30% increase in tourists is expected, thanks to the tourism fair that was recently organized in Berlin, where Albania was present and among which Tepelena had its place in this promotional fair.

"We have almost 20 requests for investment, not only in Kurvelesh, but also in the central unit and other units, and I cannot leave out our battle horse; the revitalization of the Ali Pasha Tepelena castle, and inside the castle there will be several service units converted into guesthouses. We are in the starting phase of the Vjosa park, which will be in Majkosh. A large part of them are waiting for the opening of the call from AZHBR, to start working on their investments", said Peçi. /CNA
